Birds enjoy drinking, playing and bathing in many pools of water, whether splashing in a puddle brimming from a pothole, water treatment reservoir, or a public fountain. However, some of these swimming areas are tainted by oil and gasoline run-off, sewage, residue from a road's tar or asphalt, or heavy chlorination. Such unnatural impurities may actually leave a bird dirtier post-bath and endanger its physical wellbeing. While controlling the water quality of every puddle in the world is impossible, bird lovers can at least provide a safer bathing pool for feathered friends by installing a home birdbath and keeping the basin stocked with clean water. To help encourage frequent refills of fresh water, Allied Precision Industries (API) created this birdbath model with a hinged mount to enable easy disposal of dirty, stagnant water.

Simple in appearance to fit into any outdoor décor, the birdbath basin features plastic construction that fares well through all weather conditions. Birds come to rest on the basin's rim, which is designed specifically to accommodate a natural talon grip. The basin affixes to API's unique EZ-Tilt-To-Clean deck rail mount. Summary: Almost worth the cost
Comment: It's a little on the flimsy side, although for $40 (at the time of my purchase) I hardly expected something made of cast iron. The basin is plastic and very lightweight, which is good. The clamp holding it to the railing of your deck is metal but not nearly sturdy enough. When attached it to our deck (which has 2x4 railings) and the clamp did hold it tight enough.

Here's the problem: the clamp would work better on a 2x6 railing. It (the clamp) is basically about 7" long, has one leg that fits squarely on one side of your railing while the other hangs off and has short screws that insert into that other end which you tighten/screw down to hold it onto the 2x6 (probably quite nicely). However, to fasten it in place for a 2x4, you have to use much longer (provided) screws which don't really hold it tight enough. Instead they tended to bend the entire clamp convexly (is that a word?) and make it lose its grip entirely. In the end, I cut a chunk of 2x4 from a spare piece of wood I had lying around and used it as a "shim" so I could make use of the smaller screws. It's on fairly securely, but it probably won't hold the weight of some backyard woodland creature that might try to get in for a drink.

So yeah, it works, finally and after about 30 minutes of finagling, but I think for $40 I would have liked a sturdier mounting bracket.

Comment: I just bought this bird bath and am tempted to return it. The brackets do not fit together, so the bowl does not clip onto the railing properly. It is unstable and not level. It is just poorly made and definitely not worth the money.

Comment: I bought this for my mom so that she might enjoy a closer view of the many birds in her yard. It was easy to install and the birds seem to have accepted it. Whenever I visit, Mom reports on the birds she has observed using it, so I am happy with the result. I cannot say anything about how long it will hold up, but even if it only lasts a few seasons, Mom (and I) will have gotten plenty of value from it.

Comment: This is a sturdy, well-made product. The birds LOVE it. It's a little larger than it looks in the picture, I think. Easy to care for. My deck railing is a 1" x 6", and fits perfectly.
