Summary: Alot harder than a normal gripper
Comment: I purchased the trainer with almost no previous grip training. Although i did some weight lifting, i could not close the gripper one full time. It has been about 2 weeks and i can close it still only 3 full times. Even though i can't close it i still can close it as far as possible for about 12 times, or i close it as far as possible once and hold it 10-30 seconds. Even though the Trainer is supposed to be easy compared to all the other ones, it is alot harder than the normal gripper, which i can close about 40 times for 3 sets (i did this once about a week before i got this one). So the point is if you have little grip training get this one and a lighter one so you don't just have one hard one. Also, one bad thing about the gripper is that it squeaked the instant i first used it, and squeaks alot more now.

Comment: This gripper is sweet, no doubt. But... don't listen to reviews saying how hard the Trainer is. If you do any weight training, I suggest starting with the #1. The first time I squeezed it it seemed fairly hard. I have had the Trainer for 1 week, and I do three sets, three times a week. The last time I used it (after 1 week) I did 32 reps, 22 reps then 21 reps. I have WAY maxed this thing out and need much heavier grips. Other than picking the wrong one to start with (due to some of the reviews seen here) it is exactly what I thought it should be.

Now if you are a big weight lifter, or do other grip exercises, you probably will still want this for warm up, but buy the #1 for reps. If you are new to lifting like me, then you will probably want the Sport model for warm ups along with this for real reps.

So does this thing offer progress? Well, I'll let you decide by this personal example. I started with a Sport and Trainer. I could just do my warm up reps with the Sport, and I could JUST barely crank out my 3 reps of 6 with the Trainer. 3-4 weeks later, I am able to easily do the Sport and squeeze 3 sets of 15 with the Trainer. So did it help me get a better grip? Does it work? I think the numbers speak for themselves.

Are there any cons? A few, but not enough to drop this fine piece of equipment below 5 stars. I already have rough hands, so they didn't bother my hands much, but my friends say the first few weeks on "soft hands" can be rough because of handle texture. Another downside is that these things tend to move after several reps. You might find yourself readjusting your hand around the grip during your reps.

Overall this is a great product to train for better forearms and give you a more confident, if not crushing, grip. Want more proof? Get these and workout for a few weeks, and then go shake some hands. Big hands. Those people you know that like to shake hard. Not only will their squeeze not do much (unless they are grip trainers too), but your grip will be MUCH firmer. It really is a great feeling...
