Editorial Review:
Housed in a smooth, modern-looking design, this 1000-watt electric kettle rapidly boils up to 1 quart of water for coffee, tea, instant soups, and more. The unit features a detachable cord and a nonspill spout for graceful serving, plus a generous handle with a secure grip. Its immersed heating element provides a rapid and quiet heating process, making it ideal for the office, home, or college dorm. Dual water-level indicators allow for convenient filling, and the unit's easy-open lid is designed with a security lock to prevent spilling. And there's no need to worry about leaving it on, the kettle automatically shuts off when the water boils, and its boil-dry protection keeps the unit from boiling when there's no water left

Customer Rating:
Summary: submerged heating coil means FAST boiling Comment: This electric kettle boils water really quickly because the heating element is a submerged coil, not just a plate on the bottom. The kettle automatically turns off when the water boils. It doesn't make a sound though to let you know when this has happened - only a slight clicking noise as the on-off switch physically flicks to off - so if you want boiling water, it's best not to walk away. Just watch it until it boils. Luckily it only takes a minute or two since the kettle is so fast. It's only intended for boiling *water* - no making soup or tea in this kettle, because of the heating coil. Customer Rating: Summary: For $15 can't be beat Comment: For a $15 expenditure cannot be beat. Made of plastic (not great but does the job-especially for $15), does not take long to warm up, relatively easy to clean, easy to see water level. The only critique is that it comes with an electric cord that is about 3 ft long. It would have been nice if it included a longer cord. Customer Rating: Summary: Ideal Comment: Works great for boiling water for Tea. Like many others said earlier, the lid does not open and shut smoothly. I had to boil and discard the water a few times before I started using the kettle as it has quite a strong smell of plastic initially. I like the detachable cord feature and the compact design of the kettle. Customer Rating: Summary: Proctor Silex K2070H 1-Quart Automatic Electric Kettle, White Comment: This piece of merchandise is the first that I did not care for. After heating up several quarts of water, the water still had a chemical, unappetizing taste to it. Amazon.com should not sell merchandize that rates minus five stars. I was totally disappointed and I will never ever purchase a Proctor Silex product again. Customer Rating: Summary: Great for what it's designed to do Comment: I've had this kettle for three months now and it's worked like a charm. I use it to boil water for tea, oatmeal and cup o' noodles ever so often. A full container boils in about a minute or two and shuts of automatically. Three things to watch out for though: 1) The cord it comes with is only about two feet long. Thankfully, the cord is pretty generic. I had a longer one lying around from my old printer. 2) After a couple of months of daily use the heating irons will start to accumulate water mineral deposits. I've cleaned it in the following way and it's flawless: Pour in about one cup vinegar, three cups water and boil. Let sit about 15-20 minutes and pour out. Then pour in about a half cup lemon juice, two cups water, boil and pour out. It comes out like new and the vinegar smell virtually disappears. 3) When the kettle shuts off automatically it doesn't beep, you just hear the click of the boil switch as it goes back to off mode. This may not be enough if you're planning to turn it on and leave the room and/or use it in a noisy environment. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this little boiler.
